5 Features That Help Make Roku TV Great

5 features that make Roku a great smart TV

here are many reasons customers love their Roku TVs. Set up is easy, navigation is simple, and you can stream just about anything with access to 500,000 movies and TV episodes. On top of that, Roku TVs are affordable – the 55″ Insignia Roku TV won a “Best Tech Value” award from Tom’s Guide. All-around, it’s a great TV – evidenced by PC Mag’s Best TVs of 2017 list and it’s the “best smart-TV experience on the market” according to CNET.

As with any Roku device, a great benefit is frequent Roku OS updates that bring new features and improvements. We are always working hard to enhance the Roku experience. Here are five of my favorite Roku TV features.

I take this for granted but I love to have my home screen just the way I want it.  I group content types together; inputs, subscription services, news, free content etc. It makes everything so easy to find. I also give some of my inputs a custom name to match exactly what is plugged in.  The one thing I don’t do is search for the dreaded input button, there isn’t one with Roku TV, just select your entertainment choice right from the home screen; that might be Netflix or a cable box, easy.

The Roku Channel offers hundreds of Hollywood hits for FREE. Stream comedies, award-winners, cult classics and more! Movies including In The Line Of Fire, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Pursuit of Happyness, Friends With Money, Teen Wolf and more are streaming for free this month. Stay tuned to the blog for weekly updates on what’s streaming on The Roku Channel. If you haven’t watched it, I’d recommend In The Line Of Fire!

My favorite feature in the Roku mobile app (for iOS and Android) is private listening.  If you haven’t tried it you should.  When the family goes to bed, I can watch the TV and listen to the audio through my headphones, no one complains about the noise…well, until I bang the fridge closed!  Other great features of the mobile app include the ability to easily cast music, photos, and videos from your phone to your TV. Use your mobile device as a fully functional remote control.

Pausing streaming content is something we take for granted but ever yearn for that pause button while watching antenna broadcast TV? You’ll never miss a play when you run to the kitchen with Live TV Pause. When an antenna is connected to your Roku TV, you can easily pause and playback digital broadcast TV. Using this feature, over-the-air TV can be paused for up to 90 minutes. Live TV Pause requires a low-cost USB flash drive with 16GB or more of storage capacity to be connected to your Roku TV.

When I’m watching TV I get lazy, so using voice to search for shows or movies is right up my street. Search for your favorite entertainment using voice on compatible Roku TV remotes or with the free Roku mobile app. Plus, with Roku OS 8.0 (expected to roll out by the end of the year), you’ll soon be able to use your voice to change channels and switch inputs.
